  8. Hi Morgan! My name is Josephine and my son was recently diagnosed with a moderate Omphalocele as well! I just came across your blog by googling omphalocele moms and I'm so excited to meet another mommy-to-be going through the same things as I am! My baby was diagnosed around 20 weeks and I was devastated. My pregnancy was unplanned and right around the time I was getting used to the thought of being a mommy...bam! We learned about his condition, I was sooo scared at first as I'm sure you were, I did my homework too, even though my regular OB thought it was best I stayed off the computer until I met with the specialist, I couldn't help myself!! I had the amnio (all results indicated that there are no other birth defects associated-- a breathe of fresh air!!) and have met with a number of specialists and surgeons too! I am now currently 36 weeks and my c-section is scheduled for August 13, 2009. I want to finish reading your blog! I got so excited to meet another momma in the same situation that I didn't finish reading your thoughts and experiences! Anyways.. you are now in my thoughts and prayers~ just wanted to say hello and introduce myself!

  9. Welcome Josephine,
Sorry it took so long for me to contact you! I can totally relate to how you are feeling...right when I was 12 weeks and was finally telling people I was pregnant I got the news too...I didn't even want to talk about my pregnancy anymore I was so devastated, shocked, and scared.

As time has gone on, I feel better about everything and I am actually excited for him to come out, get fixed, and come home!!

My husband and I always debated whether or not we wanted to have children and the time came where we said, ok, lets try and if it happens great, if it doesn't we will be ok...it happened and then so did the birth defect!

Become a follower of the blog so we can keep in touch...good luck, I want to hear how everything is going, especially since you will have your baby so soon!! CONGRATULATIONS!!

  10. Hi Morgan! My name is Sarah and I had twin girls in April 09, one of which had a giant omphalocele. Over a year later and she is doing great. I found your site when I googled omphalocele moms because I often wonder how children who have this end up as they grow up. Addison is fine but is very small for her age and in comparison to her twin. She can't eat the volume other babies her age can and we have to work with a nutritionist to find ways to add more calories to her food so she gains. This may always be a struggle for us and her but I wanted to meet other moms and hear how their situations compared and how they have coped. Thanks for your blog!!

  12. Thank you for your blog. This has been such a help with all of my questions/fears.

The doctors found an abdomen abnormality during the 18 week u/s. Like you, we had not done any testing. We did the amnio the same day as the u/s. We just got back the prelim results which are showing normal.

We still have a long way to go and lots more tests to run. We are also waiting to share the news with our families until we know all of the details. I know I will be visiting your blog again and again.

  13. I want to echo the thanks from above. Knowing others have had successful outcomes gives us so much hope. I've been scouring the internet for positive stories and have happily come across yours.

We are in a holding pattern right now, monitoring her development every couple of weeks. Can't wait to meet her.

Our best to you and your family.

  14. Hi, thankyou so much for creating this blog. I am 15 weeks and our baby has been diagnosed with omphalocele. We have the amniocentisis tomorrow. I am so hopeful that there is nothing else wrong.
I am feeling quite terrified of all the possible outcomes of this pregnancy, but your blog has really helped me today.
I'm 34 and already have two beautiful healthy children.
I will be exploring your blog much more for sure :) xxx
